Background
Barrow Golf Club has a proud history of encouraging Junior membership within the club. Junior members have formed a valued section of the club for over 50 years, and over this time our junior members have represented the club at county level, whilst also competing in international events.
Our Junior Section has a dedicated Junior Organiser, Steve Slater, who is supported by our PGA Golf Professional and Junior Committee. The committee work closely with England Golf and the Golf Foundation to ensure that we can adopt the latest best practice in junior development.
Coaching is available on a weekly basis to junior members of all ages and experience. The coaching is delivered by qualified instructors, with the aim of facilitating improvements in golfing skills, but also helping young people “start and stay” in golf by making the coaching fun, innovative, inclusive and enriching.
We will be operating a busy junior competition schedule for 2025, with 19 events taking place between April and September. To encourage all of our juniors to participate, we utilise different tees, and numbers of holes, tailored to suit differing levels of skills and experience.
The Club also participates in friendly matches with other clubs in the area which gives our junior members the opportunity to compete in a team format, and experience playing at other courses.
Safeguarding
The safeguarding and welfare of children and young people is paramount at Barrow Golf Club. The Club operates a Children and Young People Safeguarding Policy, and in January 2025 we were re-awarded the SafeGolf standard by England Golf.
Membership
Membership fees for junior golfers are very competitive, with the fees for 2025 being as follows:
- Under 11 Years on 1st April 2025 £55
- Aged 11 and under 16 years on 1st April 2025 £125
- Aged 16 and under 18 years on 1st April 2025 £170
